The requalification project for Escola da Vila – Vila Indiana Unit comprises the adequacy of the existing space, creating a more accessible, comfortable, and safe environment for students, staff, and other users.
New garden areas were proposed, new pavements for the sidewalks, readjustment of the conviviality areas, and creation of newly covered areas, with special emphasis on the coverage of the sports court.

Such cover is structured by a retractable metallic system, whose metal tiles together with polycarbonate panels guarantee both the thermoacoustic insulation and natural light. Inside, a wooden lining follows the arched roof, enhancing the defined shape, as well as preparing the court for different types of events. With side closures, transparent material shutters have been proposed to ensure adequate ventilation and natural lighting, protecting the interior from rain.

In the leisure areas, besides proposed solutions for furniture and lighting, the existing organic layout creates an accessible path, consisting of monolithic floors in pigmented concrete, to accommodate the geometry and visible roots, besides giving a playful character to the environment. To cover the internal sidewalks, a tensioned roof was proposed, designed based on the preservation of canopy from existing trees.

The proposal prepared by Levisky Arquitetos for the tender launched by SENAC Presidente Prudente for the expansion of its facilities, to accommodate new demands of its educational program, has as a premise the integration of the existing volume with the new additions. The connection is marked by the insertion of a single floor joining both spaces, which unite in a wide area of conviviality and circulation.

In this covered but open space, made up of large spans, it is proposed to expand and allow flexibility in the activities performed by the institution, with environments prepared for integration, coexistence, and creativity.

Sustainability premises are incorporated into the project, which provides, for example, the maintenance of existing trees whenever possible, by taking advantage of sunlight, and the natural shape of the land. To ensure better operational efficiency and meet the program proposed by SENAC, adjustments to flows and sectorization of the environments were designed.

The Feasibility Study and Business Plan wanted to implement a reference healthcare complex focused on the population of a region with specific cultural characteristics, integrated with services and trade spaces, seeking sustainable technological solutions, establishing renovation, innovation, and integration with urban network. From the implantation of the complex in different scenarios, the study proposes a model that can be replicated in different locations as a network, from a strategic perspective that makes up the urban demands with health needs. The plan also mapped and analyzed the potential of identified lots with adequate construction vocation.

The complex’s Business Plan was divided into two stages, each with four stages of execution. The first includes a study of market potential and new opportunities, in addition to the preparation, review, and approval of the Business Plan. The second includes land acquisition, project development, approval of legal projects and licenses, and the work execution in a phased manner.

The project started with the need to install a building as an integral part of the hospital complex, which would meet the demand for administrative spaces and operational support from the hospital, in addition to the establishment of services with an active facade.

The project is organized in two towers, connected through a walkway, providing more faces of the building with natural lighting and enabling the program to be adapted to accommodate spaces for permanence. This typology also generates two voids, which connect to the lower floors of housing care and operational support programs. The façades have horizontal and sliding glass panels on the floors, alternated with vertical sliding metallic windshields, which give the building the possibility of controlling aeration and insolation.

The healthcare program has a diagnostic center, a surgical center, emergency services, and admission areas, as well as operational and administrative support, parking lots, and conviviality areas.

Although the city of São Paulo has large hospital structures, the demand for health services persists. Analyzing the conditions of health equipment in São Paulo, it is clear that the pattern of land use near these institutions is repetitive: occupied and consolidated areas, scarcity of available land, in contrast to the constant need for updating and expansion of its structures, hampered even more by legal urban restrictions.

Given this, Levisky Arquitetos presented the municipality with a study in which a new draft project was proposed based on encouraging the expansion and implementation of complementary activities in the areas surrounding existing health complexes, which was welcomed by the Executive and Legislative offices, generating a new urban instrument for hospitals in the city.

As a first experience using this instrument, the Master Plan for Albert Einstein Hospital was developed, foreseeing a series of area relocations – both in the existing building and also in its adjacent areas – considering the incentives to uses related to health services and health education, in which, for example, new areas were proposed for activities of medium and low complexity, in addition to the expansion of the operating room and intensive care units.

The preliminary study for Hospital Support Building started from the demand for administrative and operational support spaces presented by a large hospital situaded in the city of São Paulo. Following the land slope, the project was conceived in a staggered way, allowing the best use of areas, providing a privileged view of a very important square in the city.

The sectorization guidelines resulted in a large horizontal volume, with loose and light volumes. To provide better thermal comfort for the sides facing east, in addition to the garden terraces, cantilevered slabs were provided. On the north-facing sides, with better views, openings were provided to frame the landscape, associated with cantilevered slabs, terraces, and windshields.

From a programmatic point of view, the project houses an administrative department, operational support areas, support areas for employees, parking, areas for chartered buses, and a food court, aimed at socializing and relaxing.

In line with the new service philosophy of the Institute of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (IOCAP) at UNICAMP, whose goal is to provide full health treatment for their patients and family members through humanized practices, the project invests in welcoming users, guided by high technology, sustainability, and functionality in the proposal of new buildings.

As an articulating element, the central square was thought to be more than just a circulation area, adding functions of the foyer, classroom, conviviality area, space for exhibitions, and stress release. From this spot, the other buildings are arranged around it, like the teaching and research building, which, by embracing it with glass facades, allows greater visual permeability to the complex and greater integration with local nature and landscape.

The proposal also allows for the future integration of IOCAP with Hospital das Clínicas through a land next to the Helipad, with access to cars, ambulances, and pedestrians. In this way, a good flow of clinical, infrastructure, and emergency staff is made possible, guaranteeing great teamwork between hospital’s assistance and operational areas, such as Medical Specialties, pharmacy, kitchen, among others.

Senac’s largest unit in São Paulo state was designed to be a building that can be adapted to its needs as fast as their training courses can adapt to the rapid changes in the labor market. On the other hand, it is to become cultural equipment to the most populous neighborhood of São Paulo city, an area that suffers from the lack of this type of space and has low socioeconomic development.

To meet these demands, the office created a flexible building, easy to maintain, and with great mobility thanks to the work carried out with the pedagogical team, aligning the architecture with Senac’s educational project. Based on this alignment of intentions, the project envisaged a series of specific laboratories and conventional classrooms. The integration made by corridors and lounges, which adapt and assume many functions, stimulate the pedagogical and educational character by promoting encounters and exchanges.

The transparency of the three blocks not only brings natural light to the interior but is also an invitation to come in for people outside. The invitation is also made by the open ground floor of the main building, located on an important avenue in the neighborhood. Likewise, the library is open to the general public, and a public square connects the three buildings.

To help to organize teaching activities with playful aesthetics, the office worked intensively with colors. The palette appears both on the giant mobile, hanging from a 25-meter tall wall in the main building, creating a myriad of colors and volumes, as well as in the painting of areas intended to host different training programs. This grouping makes employees’ work easier and students can move from one room to the other easily, contributing to the flexibility and adaptation of spaces.

By offering a major sensorial experience, mixing lights, colors, volumes, and spaces for interaction, the buildings contribute to efficient learning, connected to current needs. Besides, it invites the local community to use the space, people eager for opportunities for personal development and access to culture.

An architectural project well aligned with the institution’s pedagogical proposal is capable of supporting the transformation of teaching and learning. For this reason, Levisky Arquitetos had its winning bid in the tender for the new Senac unit in the city of Bebedouro, in São Paulo countryside.

The project establishes a great learning environment that goes beyond the limits of the classroom. Through modular spaces that adapt to different pedagogical needs, enables multidisciplinary activities, follows the didactic process of the institution, and creates a stimulating educational experience inside and outside the conventional rooms.

By arousing curiosity and stimulating creativity, the architectural solution unites functionality and design, invites people to discover the educational and cultural complex and to experience the internal and external environments.

The spaces bring a playful aesthetic that stimulates creativity through multimedia lounges; areas for reading, meeting and coffee, contemplation and socializing outdoors; library and study niches, in addition to ensuring multidisciplinary and simultaneous activities, with flexibility, accessibility and adaptability according to the intended use.
